About the Destination

Established in 1925, it is Africa's oldest national park and spans 160 sq. km. It encompasses five of the eight volcanoes in the Virunga chain: Karisimbi, Bisoke, Muhabura, Gahinga, and Sabyinyo. The park's altitude ranges from 2,400m to 4,507m, creating diverse ecological zones from bamboo forests to afro-alpine moorlands. In 2025, it continues to be a global model for conservation-led tourism, with 12 habituated gorilla families open for visitation.
