Overview

Nyungwe National Park is a majestic high-altitude montane rainforest in southwestern Rwanda. It is a vital water catchment area and a biodiversity powerhouse, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2023. Unlike the volcanic terrain of the north, Nyungwe offers an ancient, dense jungle experience filled with rushing waterfalls, deep valleys, and a symphony of primate calls.

About the Destination

Covering over 1,000 sq. km, Nyungwe is home to 13 primate species representing 25% of Africa's total including chimpanzees and the large-troop Angolan Colobus monkeys. The park is managed through a partnership between the Rwanda Development Board and African Parks. It is a critical ecological hub, supplying 75% of Rwanda's fresh water and feeding both the Nile and Congo River basins.
