About the Destination

Covering 2,700 sq. km, Lake Kivu is one of the deepest lakes in the world and is unique for its "meromictic" nature—where layers of water do not mix, trapping massive reserves of methane gas deep below. The shoreline is dotted with fishing villages and luxury resorts. It serves as the starting point for the famous Congo Nile Trail, a 227km adventure path that winds along the hilly coastline, offering some of the most beautiful vistas in East Africa.
