Amboseli National Park

Destination

Overview

Amboseli is one of Kenya’s most iconic parks, famous for providing the ultimate "postcard" image of Africa: massive herds of free-ranging elephants moving across the plains with the snow-capped peak of Mount Kilimanjaro towering in the background. Its unique ecosystem is centered around series of permanent swamps fed by underground rivers from the mountain, creating a lush oasis amidst an otherwise arid landscape.

About the Destination

Spanning 392 sq. km, Amboseli is relatively small, making it easy to see most of its wildlife in a short time. It is a world-renowned center for elephant research, home to some of the oldest and largest elephants in Africa. The park’s terrain is a fascinating mix of dried-up lake beds (Lake Amboseli), sulphur springs, and wetlands. Because of the sparse vegetation, wildlife sightings—including lions, cheetahs, and hyenas—are remarkably clear and unobstructed.
