About the Destination

ounded in 1934, Akagera is one of Africa's oldest national parks, covering approximately 1,122 sq. km. It is a unique ecosystem where the typical East African savannah meets the moisture of the Lake Victoria basin. After years of decline, the reintroduction of lions in 2015 and black rhinos in 2017 has restored its status as a premier wildlife sanctuary. The park is managed through a partnership between the Rwanda Development Board and African Parks, ensuring high standards of protection and community involvement.
