9 Days Wildebeest Migration
Embark on this remarkable 9-day itinerary specially crafted to follow the awe-inspiring Great Migration. With 4 nights in the Serengeti, you’ll explore the central Serengeti while also witnessing the incredible migration, which can be observed in the south (Ndutu) from December to March or in the remote northern tip of the Serengeti from July to November.
Day 1: Arrival in Arusha
Upon arrival, a warm African Spoonbill Tours representative will greet you at the airport and escort you to your accommodation in Arusha. Take the evening to unwind and prepare yourself for the exciting adventures that await.
Day 2: Tarangire National Park
After a hearty breakfast, embark on a full-day game drive in Tarangire National Park. Witness its diverse landscapes, adorned with ancient baobab trees and crowded with wildlife, including elephants, lions, leopards, and a myriad of bird species. Enjoy a picnic lunch at an observatory, watching animals quench their thirst at the Tarangire River. In the evening, return to your lodge for dinner and relaxation.
Day 3: Serengeti National Park
Today, head to the world-renowned Serengeti, known for the Great Migration and its majestic landscapes. Marvel at the vastness of the Serengeti as you drive through the highlands and admire the Ngorongoro Crater. The Serengeti’s abundance of wildlife, including wildebeests, zebras, gazelles, lions, cheetahs, and hyenas, promises an unforgettable safari experience. Day 4: Serengeti National Park Central
A whole day of adventure awaits as you explore the Serengeti National Park. Depending on the time of year, you may have the chance to witness the Great Migration, following the herds’ movements across the vast plains. Prepare to be enchanted by the park’s remarkable landscapes and diverse wildlife, including the “Big Five” – lions, elephants, buffalos, rhinos, and leopards.
Day 5 & 6: Following the Migration
Over the next two days, your safari continues as you journey through the Serengeti’s plains, tracking the Great Migration’s location. Your experienced guide will lead you to where the herds are moving, either in the remote north near the border with Kenya or the Ndutu Region in the south. Revel in the splendor of the Serengeti, its magnificent creatures, and the breathtaking landscapes.
Day 7: Serengeti to Ngorongoro
After breakfast, embark on another game drive in the Serengeti National Park, encountering new and captivating wildlife. Relish the opportunity to witness the “Big Five” in their natural habitat. After lunch at a picnic site, continue your journey toward the Ngorongoro Crater. As you reach the rim of the crater, be awe-inspired by the caldera’s stunning vista. Check into your lodge and enjoy the breathtaking sunset over the crater.
Day 8: Ngorongoro Crater
Rise early for an extraordinary day of wildlife viewing on the crater floor, an enclosed ecosystem teeming with over 25,000 animals. Ngorongoro, one of the seven wonders of Africa, offers a unique opportunity to observe the “Big Five” and an array of other wildlife, including wildebeests, gazelles, and various bird species. Day 9: Lake Manyara National Park and Return
On your final day, venture to Lake Manyara National Park, where the shallow salt lake attracts thousands of flamingos and a rich diversity of birdlife.
