Tsavo National Park

Destination

Overview

Tsavo is Kenya’s largest and oldest national park, so vast that it is divided into two distinct sections by the Nairobi-Mombasa highway. Together, they form one of the world's largest wildlife sanctuaries, offering a raw, untamed wilderness that ranges from the flat, heat-shimmering plains of Tsavo East to the volcanic, spring-fed green hills of Tsavo West.

About the Destination

Tsavo East (13,747 sq. km) is famous for its massive herds of elephants that appear red from the iron-rich soil, the 300km-long Yatta Plateau (the world's longest lava flow), and the legendary "Man-eaters of Tsavo" lions. Tsavo West (9,065 sq. km) is more mountainous and scenic, featuring the Shetani Lava Flows and the Ngulia Rhino Sanctuary, which is a critical stronghold for the endangered black rhino.
